Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - On a nice sunny day, #11 Bates College took down the Roger Williams Men's Lacrosse team 12-8 Saturday afternoon during the Hawks' first game of the season.

Roger Williams grabbed the first goal of the contest, with
Stephen Assumma (South Salem, N.Y.) coming down the field and firing in net for 1-0 Hawk lead three minutes into the game. Bates responded at 10:32 with a goal by Andrew Melvin (Medfield, Mass.), assisted by Jack Allard (Ridgewood, N.J.), for Melvin's fourth goal of the season.

Unfortunately for Bates, the charged-up Hawk offense would fire off their next two goals within a minute of each other.
Emmett Little (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored his first goal of the season at 5:05 and
Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) added his own 15 seconds later to put the Hawks up 3-1.

In the second quarter, Bates won the faceoff and drove down the field for a goal by Charlie Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa.). Roger Williams' A.J. Core (Syosset, N.Y.) scored under two minutes after from a successful clear attempt to give the Hawks a 5-3 advantage.

The quarter saw no goals for the next few minutes until Kyle Weber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) scored with a man-up goal at 8:32 to have Bates trailing by one. In the final minute, Bates grabbed the lead with back-to-back goals by Max Breschi (Carlisle, Pa.) to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

The third period saw no goals for the Hawks. Once the 8:59 mark hit Bates would go on a 5-0 scoring streak. Hildebrand scored the first goal of the period to spark the streak. Under a minute later, Melvin added his second goal of the game. Charlie Fay (Falmouth, Maine) scored at the 5:30 mark with an assist by Jake Walsh (Baltimore, Md.). The pair had success again with another goal by Fay and assist by Walsh following just over a minute after. Fay shot for a hat trick at 3:48 to take a 11-5 lead over Roger Williams.

In the last quarter of the game,
Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) scored at 12:14 for a man-up goal. The next nine minutes saw no scoring action until Fay tallied one for the Bobcats for the first time in the period at 3:25. Gagnon responded within the next 30 seconds with his second goal of the quarter.
Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine) followed at 2:13 with a goal assisted by Gagnon to bring the Hawks up 8-12, which would be the final score of the game.

Joe Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.)Â was the winning goalie of the game with with ten saves.
Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) took the loss for RWU with ten saves as well.

On Thursday, Roger Williams (0-1) will host Lasell at 4p.m. Bates (2-0) will travel to Connecticut to face Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.Â
