The Hawks fall short to Susquehanna but cruise past Emerson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL- The Roger Williams University  Softball team fell short on Wednesday with a 7-10 loss against Susquehanna University.

Taylor Messier (Cranston, RI) did all she could to give RWU Hawks a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Susquehanna Univeristy.
Messier got on base three times in the game for RWU Hawks. She scored two runs and had one RBI. She homered in the third inning and singled in the seventh inning.
 
Susquehanna Univeristy was sparked by Lauren Creamer and Amanda Neveroski, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.
 
Susquehanna Univeristy stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring one run on an error.Susquehanna Univeristy built upon its lead with four runs in the second. Heather Pearson singled, scoring Kelly Miller and Brooke Kohler to start the inning.Susquehanna Univeristy scored one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth. In the third, Susquehanna Univeristy scored on an RBI single by Leigh Ann Greenwald, bringing home Claire Hanratty.
 
One Hawk run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the third, making the score 6-1. A solo home run by Messier sparked RWU Hawks' rally. But, Alexa Gonzalez got Meg Maliga (Suffliel, CT) to fly out to end the inning.
 
Two runs in the bottom of the fourth helped RWU Hawks close its deficit to 7-3. A wild pitch and a walk by Messier set off RWU Hawks rally. Finally, Danielle Vollono got Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, RI) to fly out to end the threat.
 
Susquehanna Univeristy tacked on another two runs in the sixth. A bases loaded walk scored Creamer to get Susquehanna Univeristy on the board in the inning.
 
A four-run seventh inning helped bring the Hawks within three. A walk by Mikaela Grosso (West Warwick, RI), a wild pitch, a walk by Alicia McCauley (N. Reading, MA), and an RBI single by Sarah Doe (East Berkshire, VT) triggered the Hawks' comeback. Susquehanna Univeristy's Gonzalez induced a Valerie Moran fly out to close things out.
 
In the Hawks second game of the day, an all-around effort led the Hawks past Emerson College 8-0 in five innings.

Meg Maliga (Suffield, CT) carried RWU Hawks to a 8-0 victory over Emerson College on Wednesday with a strong game at the plate and in the circle.
 
Maliga racked up three RBIs on two hits for RWU Hawks. She homered in the fourth inning and singled in the fifth inning.
 
Maliga kept Emerson College off the scoreboard for all five innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out three.
 
The Hawks' bats came to life in the fifth inning. In the inning RWU Hawks scored five runs. The Hawks scored in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Samatha Corey, a two-run error, a two-run error, an RBI single by Maliga, and an RBI single by Sigita Ivaska.
 
The game was never in doubt after the third, as the Hawks scored one run on an RBI double by Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, RI).

The Hawks last game of their spring break trip is Thursday, March 10th at 11am against Lakeland.
