Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team used a fourth-quarter scoring outburst to push past Wheaton College and collect a 13-5 victory over the Lyons Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks logged seven goals in the fourth quarter while holding the Lyons scoreless in the period to turn a slim one-goal lead into an eight-goal win.
AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) kicked off the game with his fifth goal of the season less than two minutes into the game. Matt Morgan (York, Maine) tied things up two minutes later for the Lyons, but the Hawks would respond with three goals over the remainder of the period to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
The second period saw a lack of offense by both teams.
Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) logged the lone goal of the quarter for Roger Williams, coming with 2:17 left in the half. Roger Williams would go into the break leading 5-1.
Wheaton's offense would pick up in the third quarter, outscoring RWU 4-1 in the period. Kyle Neale (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Zachary Brode (Boulder, Colo.) each scored within the first four minutes to pull the Lyons within three. Will Morrison (Osterville, Mass.) and CJ Leighton (Falmouth, Maine) each added goals in the final three minutes to close the deficit within one going into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter was all Roger Williams, as the Hawks put up seven unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
Doug Brown (New York, N.Y.) scored twice in the quarter as part of RWU's run, helping the Hawks get their third win of the year.
Siefert finished with six points on four goals and two assists, while Brown had five points on three goals and two assists.
Nick Gagnon (Duxbury, Mass.) contributed four points (1 G, 3 A) as well.
Cam Donnelly (Medfield, Mass.) notched three caused turnovers for RWU.
Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) tallied 16 saves for RWU in the win.
Morrison and Neale each finished with a goal and two ground balls for Wheaton. Ryan Clair (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made 15 saves in the loss.
On Wednesday, Roger Williams (3-3) hosts UMass-Dartmouth, while Wheaton (2-3) welcomes Gordon.
