Box Score 2 Bristol, RI- The Roger Williams University Softball team split their double header with Salve Regina on Wednesday at Paolino Field. The Hawks were defeated by the Seahawks 0-3 in their first game of the double header. The Hawks pulled out the win in their second game winning 4-2.
Meg Maliga (Suffield, CT) had a strong game against the Seahawks boosting her batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace the Hawks. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings.
Maliga was a workhorse in the circle for the Hawks as well. Maliga allowed two earned runs, seven hits and no walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.
Kelsey Boarman got the win for Salve Regina University. She pitched seven shutout innings. Boarman struck out two, walked two and gave up seven hits.
Salve Regina University was sparked by
Elizabeth Lombardo and
Genevieve Benoit, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs.
Maliga was the game's losing pitcher.
The game was never in doubt after the fourth, as Salve Regina University scored one run on an RBI double by
Megan Guest.
In the Hawks won their second game of their double header against the Seahawks. Salve Regina University was never able to get over the hump and get over its troubles against the Hawks on Wednesday, as Salve Regina University fell 4-2 after falling behind by three runs in the fifth inning.
Salve Regina University scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single by
Elizabeth Lombardo. Despite its efforts, Salve Regina University couldn't finish the comeback.
Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, RI)Â reached base three times in the game for the Hawks. She singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.
The Hawks relied on
Mary Adametz to eat up innings en route to the win. Adametz allowed one earned run, seven hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work.
Nicole Parry couldn't get it done in the circle for Salve Regina University , taking a loss. She lasted just six innings, walked four, struck out seven, and allowed four runs.
In the bottom of the third, the Hawks grabbed the early lead, 1-0.
Salve Regina University tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single by
Lexi Soucie that scored
Genevieve Benoit.

The Hawks didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning when it scored on an error, a sacrifice fly by
Veronica Alicea, and an RBI single by Adametz.
The Hawks take the field again Saturday, April 2nd at 12PM against The University of New England.
