Endicott spoils Senior Day for Men’s Lacrosse

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking 8-9 overtime loss to the Endicott Gulls Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

RWU honored its 12 seniors, Cam Donnelly (Medfield, Mass.), Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.), Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.), Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine), Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.), PJ McGovern (Garden City, N.Y.), Jon Lazar (Greenwich, Conn.), Dan Arket (Poughquag, N.Y.), Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.), Jake Wygonik (Madison, Conn.), Parker Leese (Duxbury, Mass.), and Doug Brown (New York, N.Y.), prior to the game for their contributions to the program.

Roger Williams controlled possession for the early part of the first quarter. The Hawks were the first to put points on the board with a goal by AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) at 11:17 and a score from Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.)  following at 9:44. The Gulls only managed to score once against the Hawks in the starting quarter at 8:46 with a shot from Peter Field Jr. (Hampstead, N.H.).

At the start of the second quarter, Endicott picked up the momentum to tie up the game at 12:40 with a goal from Matthew Faucher (Western Springs, Ill.), assisted by Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.). The Gulls took the lead 3-2 at 7:20 with a shot made by Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.). The Hawks quickly fired back with a goal from Kenney at 5:45, assisted by Core.

In the last few minutes of the second quarter, Endicott had complete access to a Hawks' open net but missed with a wide toss. The Gulls made up for the missed shot with a goal by Bannon shortly after to allow Endicott to make it a 4-3 lead to end the quarter.

In the third quarter, Arket won the face off for the Hawks foreshadowing their initial control in the quarter. Gagnon jump started the Hawks' momentum at 12:14 with the first goal of the third quarter. A penalty against Endicott gave Roger Williams a man-up opportunity in the remaining two minutes. Valenti hopped on the opportunity with a goal to take the lead at 1:42. However, Endicott quickly came back to tie the game in the final thirty seconds of the quarter, with another Jennings goal and assist by Bannon.

The fourth quarter was a battle for the lead. The Hawks first took the lead scoring the first goal of the quarter at 11:44 from Siefert. Bannon hurled one into the net for the Gulls to tie the game back up 6-6 at 10:24.

At the seven-minute mark, the 30-second shot clock warning lead to a launched behind the back goal by John Lisitano (Guilford, Conn.) to bring the Hawks up 7-6. Unfortunately, the Hawks didn't hold the lead for long and Field Jr. tied the game up for the Gulls at 5:53.

In the final three minutes of the game, Gagnon scored what would be the last goal of the quarter for the Hawks now in the lead 8-7. With two minutes remaining, a shot from Endicott to tie the game hit the post, but the Gulls got it back and tied the game at 1:37 with a shot from Thomas Harvey (Huntington, N.Y.).

The Hawks final chance to score in regulation time was stopped by a great save made by Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine), forcing overtime. In the extra period, Jennings earned the win for the Gulls with his game winning a minute into the frame.

Bell made 13 saves in the win for Endicott. Jennings had three goals, while Bannon and Field Jr. scored twice.

Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) also had nine saves for Roger Williams. Gagnon scored twice with one assist. Lisitano and Siefert each had two assists.

Roger Williams (9-7, 5-2 CCC) travels to Milton, Mass. to play Curry College on Tuesday afternoon. Endicott (7-8, 6-1 CCC) will host U. of New England Tuesday evening.
