Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 19-7 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday evening.
Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) paced the Hawks with seven goals in the game. In the process, Siefert became the all-time leading goal scorer in Roger Williams, now sitting at 155 career goals and passing the previous mark of 153 by Kenny Seitles '04.
The Hawks struck first with goals by
John Lisitano (Guilford, Conn.) and Siefert for a quick 2-0 lead. Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) put the Leopards on the board with his 44
th goal of the year, but
Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.) came back with a goal of his own to close out the scoring for the first quarter.
Sifert outscored Wentworth 3-1 over the first ten minutes of the first quarter to build the Hawk lead to four (6-2). Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) later made it a 7-3 game with just over three minutes left in the half before
AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) and Hill tallied goals in the final two minutes to make it a 9-3 halftime lead for RWU.
In the third quarter, the Hawks put away the game with nine unanswered goals in the period. Siefert scored three times in the quarter with his goal at 6:55 tying the RWU record, then following it up with a man-up goal less than a minute later to move into first place in the record books.
Wentworth made a brief run in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to open the period up. However, the Leopards were unable to overcome the large deficit as the Hawks moved on to the next round.
Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) needed only four saves in the win, with
Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) also adding four saves in the final quarter. Siefert finished with eight points total (7 G, 1 A), while Core (3 G, 3 A) and Lisitano (2 G, 4 A) each added six points.
Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) and
Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) each chipped in with a goal and two assists.
Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) took the loss, making 13 saves in the game. Paradis scored three times while Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) added two goals and an assist. Parlato had the other goal for Wentworth.
Roger Williams (11-7), seeded third in the tournament, will take on the #2 seed Endicott in the CCC Semis. #6 seed Wentworth ends the year at 4-13.
