Box Score Bristol, RI- The Roger Williams University softball team beat Gordon College 8-0 in five innings on Saturday after a five-run explosion in the third inning. The Hawks advance in the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs where they will face off against The University of New England on Tuesday.
 
Taylor Messier started it off for the hawks with a homerun in the first inning. The Hawks never trailed after scoring two runs in the first on an error and the solo home run by Messier. The Hawks scored in the third on an error, an RBI double by Julianne Vesce, an RBI single by Valerie Moran, an RBI double by Merri Moise, and a passed ball.
 
Taylor Messier racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Hawks to go with her homer in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.
 
The Hawks' Meg Maliga kept Gordon College off the scoreboard for all five innings she was on the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up four.
 
Emily Kline was the game's losing pitcher. She allowed six runs in four innings, walked two and struck out three.

The Hawks defeated Gordon College in five innings 8-0. The Hawks will fight to keep their season going during the CCC playoffs, starting Monday, as they take on The University of New England at Western New England University.
