Men’s Lacrosse falters against Trinity

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – A late rally came up just short for the Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team, as Trinity College notched a 10-6 road win over the Hawks Saturday afternoon.

The Bantams controlled the game early, scoring three unanswered goals in the opening period.  Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.), Ryan DeSimone (St. James, N.Y.), and Michael McQuiston (Greenwich, Conn.) each tallied scores for Trinity in the period to give the visitors the early lead.

The Hawks finally got on the board five minutes into the second quarter, with Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) putting on in the upper right corner for his 26th goal of the season. Stefan Pappas (Millstone, N.J.) answered less than a minute later to bring the Bantam lead back up to three.

Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) and Justin MacIntyre (Norwalk, Conn.) each followed with goals for the Hawks before John Caraviello (Wellesley, Mass.) tallied the last goal of the half. Trinity went into the break leading by only two.

Despite Trinity only scoring once in the third quarter, a man-up goal by Knaus, Roger Williams wasn't able to capitalize as the Hawks failed to score in the period. It would mark the sixth time this season that RWU was shut out in the third quarter.

The Hawks would make up for the scoring deficit by getting three goals in the fourth quarter. Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.) scored twice in the final three minutes of the game to bring RWU within three (6-9) with 2:25 to play. However, Trinity put four goals on the board in the quarter, including a goal with 1:23 left by Knaus to help give the Bantams the win.

Knaus finished with three goals on the day, while Pappas scored twice. Henry Coote (St. David's, Pa.) stopped 13 shots including a number of attempts at point-blank range.

Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) led RWU with three points on a goal and two assists, while  Hill added two scores. Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) made 12 saves in the loss.

On Tuesday, Roger Williams (7-5) heads to Gordon while Trinity (3-7) hosts Wesleyan.
