Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT collected a 3-0 victory over the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium. Today marked the first time since the 2012 campaign in which the Engineers have defeated the Hawks and are now 3-1-3 in the all-time series, which dates back to 2011.
Just 2:57 into the opening stanza, MIT sophomore Selin Selman (New Rochelle, N.Y.) drove the ball down to the end line and sent a cross that connected with the head of junior Julia Goupil (Los Altos, Calif.) for the game's first goal. For Goupil, it was her first goal of the season and first since her freshman year as she had missed some time due to injury.
Much as they did in the first half, the Engineers recorded their second goal of the game just minutes into the start of the stanza. This time it was sophomore Hailey Nichols (Boulder, Colo.), who headed the ball home – her first career goal – off a corner kick from freshman Emily Berzolla (Riverside, Conn.) just 3:19 into the half. For Berzolla, her helper was the first of her collegiate career.
The Engineers put the game out of the Hawks reach about 12-minutes later when the MIT back line stole the ball. Sophomore Amy Apostol (Los Gatos, Calif.) fed the ball to junior Olivia Struckman (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who snuck the ball into the left corner of the net for the 3-0 advantage.

Morgan Snow at the top of the box, but MIT senior netminder Lauren Ullmann (Princeton, N.J.) met the ball at Snow's feet to keep the visitors off the board.
Ullmann registered her first shutout of the season and 15th of her career as she made three saves in a complete game effort for the Engineers. Roger Williams junior goalkeeper

The Engineers outshot the Hawks by a 16-7 margin and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Struckman led the way for MIT with four shots (two on net), while Nichols contributed with a pair of shots of her own and the rest (10) were spread out to ten other Engineers in the field this afternoon.
MIT opens New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, September 17th in a 1:30 p.m. match at WPI, while Roger Williams heads home to play Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest the same day beginning at 12:30 p.m.
