Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team set down Eastern Nazarene College 57-44 Saturday afternoon to collect its tenth straight victory.
Prior to the game, the Hawks recognized former Hawk Ryan Weekes '12 as part of the team's Ryan Weekes Memorial Game.
Eastern Nazarene grabbed the lead early on before the Hawks clamped down on defense to pull away from the Lions. ENC jumped out an 8-0 advantage over the opening three minutes of the game before
Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) knocked down a three for the first points of the game for RWU.
Despite the basket, the Lions continued to keep Roger Williams at arm's length, not allowing RWU to pull closer than five over the course of the quarter. Eastern Nazarene would eventually close out the first quarter with an 18-13 lead.
The Hawks began to pick up the pace offensively in the second quarter, eventually tying the game at 18 on a
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) free throw. She would later break a 22-all tie with a layup as part of an 8-2 run to end the quarter. Roger Williams would go into halftime leading 30-24.
The Roger Williams defense essentially put away the game in RWU's favor in the third quarter. The Hawks held the Lions to only 1-of-16 shooting in the period, outscoring them 15-8. Roger Williams ended the period with its largest lead of the game, a 13-point 45-32 advantage.
In the final period, Roger Williams' lead hovered between 13 and 17 throughout the entire period. Subpar shooting kept Eastern Nazarene from making a comeback, going only 5-for-15 from the floor in the fourth.
Quilty led all players with 18 points to go along with four rebounds and two blocks.
Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) finished with eight points, four steals, and a career-high eight assists.
Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) added eight points and three steals.
Shelby Holmes (Seeley Lake, Mont.) led Eastern Nazarene with eight points and five rebounds. Ashley Rendon (La Puente, Calif.) went for three points and 11 boards.
On Tuesday, Roger Williams (15-4, 12-0 CCC) hosts Salve Regina, with Eastern Nazarene (12-6, 6-6 CCC) heading to Wentworth.
