Box Score BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer Team blanked the Nichols College Bison (4-10-1, 1-6-1 CCC) 2-0 Friday night in a conference matchup at Bayside Field in Bristol, R.I.
The Hawks entered Friday with a 9-7-2 record overall and a 5-1-1 conference record. They were ranked third in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Prior to the start of the game, the six seniors were recognized for their dedication and contribution to the RWU soccer program. Each senior was accompanied by family and applauded. The seniors were:
Carly Quinn (Danielson, Conn.),
Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.),
Paige Byrne (Clifton Park, N.Y.),
Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.),
Alexis Wright (Bennington, Vt.), and
Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.).
Both teams had a tough time gaining momentum starting the first half. The first 16 minutes were back-and-forth and the ball was kept close to the middle of the field until the Hawks broke it open with two quick goals.
Provost took the corner kick which was controlled by Quinn. Ali Waxgeiser (Harding, N.J.) headed a lobbed pass into the net past Bison goalie Brooke Downey. A minute later, Woznicki passed to
Arianna Delli Carpini (Bedford Hills, N.Y.), whom scored on a shot to the top right corner of the net. This was Delli Caprini's sixth goal of the season.
Wright replaced O'Donovan in net in the 20
th minute.
The Hawks dominated ball possession in the first half, not allowing a shot by the Bison. RWU finished the half with 16 shots and a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks kept the pressure on in the beginning of the second half with two quick shots.
O'Donovan returned to the net for the Hawks with just under 19 minutes left.
Neither goalie for the Hawks was needed, though, since the Hawks completely kept the Bison out scoring territory. Nichols had no shots on the night.
The Hawks took plenty of shots in the second half but was unable to put anything together and get the ball past Downey, who had 20 saves on the night. The Hawks ended the game with a total of 31 shots.
O'Donovan's goalie record moved to 8-6-2 despite seeing any action.
The Hawks improved to 10-7-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play and will face Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday, October 24, for their final regular season and conference game before postseason play.
