Women’s Soccer To Head To TCNJ For NCAA Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team is set to face off against #2 The College of New Jersey Saturday morning at 11:00am in the team's First Round game of the 2017 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
 
The Hawks are one of 43 teams to earn entry into this year's Championship as a conference automatic qualifier. The rest of the 64-team field was made up of one Pool B selection and 20 Pool C selections.
 
Roger Williams (14-7-2, 7-1-1 CCC) earned their way into the NCAA Tournament by way of claiming the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship. The Hawks entered the tournament as the #2 seed and defeating #7 Salve Regina 3-1, #3 Western New England 1-0, and #4 Gordon 1-0 to win the championship. For the Hawks, it marks the program's third CCC Championship and NCAA berth in the past four seasons.
 
TCNJ enters the tournament ranked second nationally by United Soccer Coaches. The Lions punched its ticket to the tournament after winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference and claiming the automatic bid. TCNJ won the conference for the first time since 2013 and capped off an undefeated regular season with a pair of shutouts in the NJAC Tournament. The Lions defeated the #5 seed 5-0 before holding of #3 seed Montclair State 1-0 in the championship game.
 
TCNJ will also play hosts to Tufts and Virginia Wesleyan in the other First Round game. Their game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start. Both teams earned their way into the tournament via Pool C selection.
 
The two winners of the First Round games will meet in the Second Round on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
 
TCNJ is one of sixteen four-team sites will conduct First and Second Round play on the first weekend of the championship, Nov. 10 and 11 or 11 and 12. Second Round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites Nov. 17 and 18 or 18 and 19. All games, except the semifinals and final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the semifinals Dec. 1 and 2, at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro Sports Commission serving as hosts.
