Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team held Lasell College at bay and came away with a slim 13-12 win in the team's home opener of the 2017 season. The Lasers overcame a four-goal deficit twice in the game and managed to tie the contest in the fourth quarter. Yet Roger Williams still held on for the win.
Eddie Hill (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored the first of his six goals of the game in the less than two minutes into the game. Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) knotted the game at one with a goal at the 12:10 mark.
Roger Williams would then score four straight goals over a five-minute stretch in the opening quarter for a 5-1 lead. James Torosian (Lynn, Mass.) got back one of those scores with 2:27 left to pull the Lasers within three.
In the second quarter, Lasell's offense began to pick up, outscoring the Hawks 4-2 in the period. Alex McCormack Kuhman (Wells, Maine) scored twice in the frame to help Lasell trail by only one going into halftime (6-7).
The third quarter saw both teams roll off four goals in the frame. Hill and
AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) began the period with goals for RWU, followed by a man-up goal by Lasell's (Anthony Saitta (Derry, N.H.).
Ryan Lewis (Sherman, Conn.) and
Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) built Roger Williams' lead back up to four with back-to-back scores, but the Lasers ended the period with three straight scores to go into the fourth quarter still down by only one (10-11).
Hill put RWU up by two with a goal in the opening minute of the final quarter. However, the Lasers answered with a pair of goals, with Saitta notching the equalizer with 10:33 left in the game. Hill would come back with the eventual game winner with 7:57 left to play. In the final minute, Lasell was able to regain possession and tried to notch the game-tying goal in the closing seconds. However, they would turn the ball over, allowing RWU to escape with victory.
Hill finished with seven points on six goals and an assist.
Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) logged four points (1 G, 3 A) and a game-high eight ground balls. Lewis also tallied four points (2 G, 2 A) for the Hawks.
Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) made six saves in the win.
Austin Shindoll (Denver, Col.) had six points on a goal and five assists for the Lasers. Saitta scored three goals while David Sheehan (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Jorge Salazar (Waltham, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss.
Roger Williams (1-1) heads to Wheaton on Saturday, while Lasell hosts Plymouth State next Wednesday.
