Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team split its two games on the second day of its Florida trip, falling 4-6 to Catholic University before defeating Keene State College 6-1.
Against Catholic, the Hawks' effort to come back from down six runs in the third inning came up just short. RWU scored four runs in the failed comeback on a fielder's choice by
Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) in the fifth, a walk by
Valerie Moran (Syosset, N.Y.) in the seventh, and a single by
Sigita Ivaska (Gibsonia, Pa.) in the seventh.
Catholic scored on a single by Rachel Valdes and a single by Alyssa Keane in the first inning.
The Cardinals captured the lead in the first inning. With one out in the first inning Valdes drove in one run when she singled.
RWU Hawks scored three runs in the seventh inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by Moran and a single by Ivaska.
Ivaska went 2-for-4 at the plate as she led the team with two runs batted in.
Against Keene State, RWU grabbed an early lead on its way to the 6-1 victory. Roger Williams scored on a double by
Julianne Vesce (Mahwah, N.J.) in the first inning, an error in the second inning, and a double by
Meredith Moise (N. Reading, Mass.) in the second inning.
RWU captured the lead in the first inning. Vesce drove in one when she doubled in the first inning.
The Hawks scored three runs in the sixth inning. Roge Williams' big inning was driven by a double by
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.).
RWU Hawks collected ten hits. Moran and
Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) each collected multiple hits for RWU Hawks. Murray and Vesce each drove in two runs to lead RWU Hawks.
