Men’s Lacrosse Staves Off Curry

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team collected its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season with an 8-6 win over Curry College Tuesday afternoon.

Roger Williams jumped out to the lead on a tally by John Lisitano (Guilford, Conn.) three minutes into the opening quarter. Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) and Owen Love (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) brought RWU up 3-0 with back-to-back goals in under a minute.

Curry would not be able to get on the board until the 1:23 mark of the first period, with MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) finding the back of the net to bring the Colonels within two.

The second quarter saw a defensive stand by both teams, as Cameron Nigro (Scarborough, Maine) scored the lone goal of the frame for Curry. Curry outshot RWU 13-5 in the quarter, but Nigro managed the only score.

After halftime, Eddie Hill (Ridgefield, Conn.) began the frame with his 20th goal of the season before the Colonels logged a pair of goals to tie the game at four apiece. Roger Williams would get two of the final three goals of the quarter for a slim 6-5 lead entering the fourth.

Dakota Sanders (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) knotted things up with a goal in the first three minutes of the final period. However, Marzec would put in a shot off of a Max Camarotta (Redding, Conn.) pass to retake the lead for RWU. Roger Williams would hold on to its slim one-goal advantage until Cammarota put in an insurance goal with just under 1:30 to play.

Cammarota finished with a goal and two assists, while Marzec scored a pair of goals. Harrison Levesque (Ridgefield, Conn.) had six ground balls and won eight faceoffs. Dolan Jones (Tolland, Conn.) made 12 saves for his first collegiate win.

Urbano and Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) each scored twice for Curry. Chris Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) stopped 12 shots in the loss.

Roger Williams (4-4, 1-1 CCC) heads to Eastern Connecticut State on Thursday, while Curry (4-4, 1-1 CCC) travels to Anna Maria on the same day.
