Box Score Bristol, RI- The Roger Williams University softball team defeated Johnson & Wales University 7-6 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as RWU Hawks collected ten hits and Johnson & Wales University 11

The Wildcats captured the lead in the first inning. The Wildcats  scored one run when Kristin Frost doubled with one out in the first inning.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning for Johnson & Wales University came thanks to a single by Brenna Duperry and a single.

Rachel Wandzilak earned the win for the Hawks. She threw four innings, allowing one run, five hits, striking out four, and walking one. Caitlin Kiene took the loss for Johnson & Wales University. She tossed one and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs, four hits, striking out three, and walking one.

Maddie Reis started the game for the Hawks. She pitched three innings, allowing five runs, and six hits. Noelle Weiss started the game for Johnson & Wales University. She tossed four and a third innings, allowing four runs, six hits, and striking out two.

The Hawks trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Rachel Wandzilak singled off of Caitlin Kiene, driving in two runs.

Julianne Vesce, Wandzilak, and Amanda Boulter each collected multiple hits for the Hawks. Boulter, Wandzilak, and Vesce each managed two hits to lead the Hawks.

Meghan Gavin, Duperry, and Frost each collected multiple hits for Johnson & Wales University. Gavin went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Johnson & Wales University in hits. Johnson & Wales University was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Sierra Allen made the most plays with five.

The Hawks are back at it Friday, April 14th against conference opponent UNE at Biddeford, ME
