Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Roger Williams sophomore Juliet Hulme (Duxbury, Mass.) escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game tied before the Hawks generated three runs in the top of the seventh and clinched a 4-1 victory over at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Wednesday.
 
Hulme picked up the win in the final two innings, with freshman Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) tossing a gem, allowing just one hit in the opening 4.2 innings while fanning six. UMass Dartmouth freshman Victoria Woodward (Middleboro, Mass.) was solid in the circle in her first complete game, permitting just four hits with no runs earned.
 
The Hawks plated an early run to open the game, when Julianne Vesce (Mahwah, N.J.) sent a sacrifice fly to left field deep enough to score Meredith Moise (North Reading, Mass.). Woodward then settled in, with the defense keeping RWU off home plate until the Corsairs broke Wandzilak's no-hitter on freshman Brittany Polk's (Bridgewater, Mass.) lead-off double in the fifth.
 
UMass Dartmouth found consistency at the plate in the sixth against RWU reliever Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.). Following a lead-off single by Rebecca Field (Brentwood, N.H.), freshman Cierra Sheerin (Bridgewater, Mass.) grounded the RBI single to score Field's pinch-runner Maddie O'Gryzek (Norfolk, Mass.).
 
Hulme then entered, and after intentionally walking Polk, got the frame's three outs in succession with the bases loaded to put the Hawks in winning position for the seventh. The visitors sent three runs across in the top of the final inning, none earned as the Corsairs committed a pair of back-to-back errors.
 
Senior Gracie Trudeau (Dartmouth, Mass.) connected for a lead-off double to start the hosts' final at-bat, but Hulme forced two ground-outs and a foul-out to close the door.
 
Roger Williams forced a .280 batting average from UMass Dartmouth, the lowest single-game average by the Corsairs since the first game of the season against Alverno on March 10. With another runner caught stealing, Trudeau ups her season total to nine to lead the Little East Conference by one.
 
The Corsairs have now dropped two doubles in back-to-back games, lacing multiple doubles for the fourth time on the season.   Roger Williams has won the past four meetings with the Corsairs. UMass Dartmouth last win against the Hawks came in 2013 when they swept the doubleheader meeting.
 
LEC play continues Saturday, as Plymouth State travels to meet the Corsairs in Dartmouth, Mass. beginning at noon. The Panthers will play as the home team due to field conditions in New Hampshire. Roger Williams will host Eastern Nazarene on Friday at 3 p.m. for a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader.
