Softball Splits Double Header With The Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bristol, R.I.- The Roger Williams University softball team split their double header with the Lions of Eastern Nazarene on Friday night.

Juliet Hulme (Duxbury, MA) didn't allow a single run as the Hawks defeated Eastern Nazarene College 8-0 on Friday. Hulme allowed just four hits and induced a groundout from Viviana Coix to end the game.

An early lead helped propel the Hawks to victory. The Hawks scored on a single by Julianne Vesce (Mahwah, N.J.), a double by Valerie Moran, and a single by Juliet Hulme in the first inning to put the Hawks on the board early.
The Hawks captured the lead in the first inning scoring one run when Vesce singled with one out in the first inning.

A single by Viviana Coix in the first inning was a positive for Eastern Nazarene College.

Hulme earned the win for the Hawks. She pitched five innings, giving up zero runs, four hits, and striking out four. Elisabeth Schaffer took the loss for Eastern Nazarene College. She went four innings, surrendering seven runs, nine hits, and striking out five.

The Hawks collected 11 hits. Vesce, Hulme, and Merri Moise (North Reading, MA) each collected multiple hits for RWU Hawks. Moise, Hulme, and Vesce all had two hits to lead RWU Hawks. RWU Hawks was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Alyssa Murray had the most chances in the field with five.

Lauren Clements went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Eastern Nazarene College in hits. Eastern Nazarene College was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Clements made the most plays with five.

In the second game of their double header the Hawks stayed in it until the end, but the Lions pulled away late in an 8-6 victory on Friday. The Lions trailed 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning when Viviana Coix singled off of Juliet Hulme, driving in two runs.

The Hawks lost despite out-hitting Eastern Nazarene College 13 to 12.

The Hawks captured the lead in the second inning. Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) singled on a 1-2 count in the second inning, scoring one run.

Eastern Nazarene College knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning. Viviana Coix drove in one when she singled in the third inning.

The Hawks scored four runs in the fifth inning.  Their biggest inning was driven by a single by Juliet Hulme, a triple by Taylor Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.), and a double by Chatowsky.

The Hawks collected 13 hits. Chatowsky, Chatowsky, Hulme, and Micaela Pohl each collected multiple hits for RWU Hawks. Chatowsky went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead RWU Hawks in hits.

Eastern Nazarene College had 12 hits in the game. Kori Bow, Heidi Gomez, Lauren Clements, and Coix each collected multiple hits for Eastern Nazarene College.

The Hawks will face off against Curry College Saturday afternoon at 1PM in Milton, Mass.
