Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team won its first home game of 2018 after defeating Eastern Nazarene College 75-62 Thursday evening.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Roger Williams scored the first ten points of the contest, holding the Lions scoreless over the first four minutes of play. Eastern Nazarene managed only nine points in the first quarter, shooting only 21.1 percent from the field.
The Lions fared better in the second quarter, shooting at a 50 percent clip and outscoring RWU 15-12. However, it would not be enough to overtake the 13-point deficit at the beginning of the period. Roger Williams held a 34-24 advantage at the break.
Eastern Nazarene continued to climb their way back in the third quarter, pulling to within four (36-32) with eight minutes left. RWU would answer with a quick 5-0 run to bring it lead back up to nine. Roger Williams would eventually take a 15-point lead entering the final quarter.
The Lions made one last gasp in the closing minutes, pulling within eight (58-66) with just over three minutes to play.
Rebecca Ritchie (Hanover, Mass.) would score five straight points to build RWU's lead to 11 with under two to play and put the game out of reach.
Three Hawks scored in double figures including
Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) with 18 points,
Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) with 17, and Ritchie with 14.
Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) finished with six points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Kayla Torio (Manteca, Calif.) led ENC with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) added 11 points off the bench, while Shelby Holmes (Seeley Lake, Mont.) chipped in with nine points, eight boards, and six assists.
Roger Williams (10-3, 4-2 CCC) will travel to Endicott College on Saturday, while Eastern Nazarene (7-6, 1-5 CCC) hosts Curry also on Saturday.
