Softball Falls In Two In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball was not able to find its first win of the Spring Break trip, falling 2-0 to Delaware Valley and 8-0 to Catholic.

In the opener against Delaware Valley, the Hawk offense struggled to take advantage of scoring opportunities early on. In the first two innings, Roger Williams put runners at second and third with two outs and a chance to take the lead. However each time, the Aggies managed to escape without allowing any runs.

Hawk pitcher Hailey Pretchel (Glenmont, N.Y.) turned in a strong performance early on, taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning. However a leadoff double by Maddy O'Donohue put an end to her bid. O'Donohue would later give the Aggies their first lead, scoring on an infield hit from Caitlin Stoner.

Delaware Valley added another run in the sixth, with Dudley taking advantage of a misplayed ball by RWU in the infield to make it a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks tried to rally in the top of the seventh, putting runners at first and second with only one out. Yet the Aggies escaped again unblemished, forcing two pop-outs to earn the win.

Pretchel took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.), Valerie Moran (Syosset, N.Y.), and Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) had the sole hits for the Hawks in the game.

Against Catholic, the Hawks fell behind 0-1 in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk. The Cardinals broke the game open in the top of the fourth. A Roger Williams error helped Catholic score seven unearned runs in the inning, giving the Cardinals an eight-run lead.

Roger Williams struggled offensively in the game, being held to only one hit in the game. Catholic managed to grab the win in the shortened game.

Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) gave up one run in 2.0 innings. Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.) had the lone hit in the game for RWU.
