Softball Earns Split Down In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team split two games Sunday, notching a walk-off 6-5 win over Fitchburg State before falling 8-0 to Transylvania in five innings.
 
The Hawks took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off home run at the end of the game to topple Fitchburg State. Roger Williams University was down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
 
Roger Williams University earned the victory despite allowing Fitchburg State to score four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Fitchburg State was led by McKenzie Lambert, Michaela Keenan, and Cammi Sperling, who all drove in runs.
 
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.)  led things off in the circle for RWU. She went 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out nine and walking zero.
 
Emma Campbell allowed eight hits and six runs over 6.2 innings for Fitchburg State, striking out two and walking zero.
 
Roger Williams tallied eight hits in the game. Murray and Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) each went 2-for-4 with Chatowsky scoring two runs.
 
In the nightcap, the Hawks watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in the loss to Transylvania on Sunday. Transylvania took the lead in the first inning when Brittany Mumford hit a solo homer.
 
The Pioneers posted four runs in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth. Transylvania scattered nine hits in the game. Mumford and Madison Dorsey each collected multiple hits for Transylvania. Mumford led Transylvania with three hits in three at bats.
 
Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) took the loss for Roger Williams. She allowed five hits and four runs over 2.2 innings, striking out one. Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) threw 1.1 innings in relief.
