Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team fell in its final two games of Spring Break, dropping a 2-9 contest to Ohio Wesleyan University and a 1-6 matchup against Bethany College.
Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) scored Alicia Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) in the top of the first with an RBI double to put the Hawks up 1-0. Ohio Wesleyan got the run back off of an RBI double from Ferguson in the bottom half of the inning.
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) logged a run-scoring single of her own in the following inning, with Michaela Federico (Walpole, Mass.) scoring to put RWU back up 2-1. The Bishops grabbed two runs off a double and a sacrifice fly to go up 3-2 in the third. Ohio Wesleyan would then take a 6-2 lead in the sixth after scoring three runs in the inning.
RWU's best chance to score came in the top of the sixth when the Hawks had the bases loaded with with two outs. Unfortunately the team left all three runners stranded while Ohio Wesleyan plated three more in the bottom of the inning.
Fleming gave up four runs in three innings of work. Goria, Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.), and Alexa Califano (Dix Hills, N.Y.) each finished 2-for-3 in the game.
Against Bethany, the Bison posted three runs in the top of the first to jump out to the lead over RWU. Michaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.) scored the first run of the game on an RBI double from Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) in the bottom of the first.
However, that would be the only run RWU could muster in the game. Bethany would add two more in the fourth and one more in the seventh.
Roger Williams was held to only three hits after the first inning and was unable to put a runner in scoring position, as Bethany came away with the win.
Wandzilak went the distance, allowing six runs (five earned) in the game with three strikeouts. She also had two hits in the game and an RBI.
Roger Williams (1-11) will return to Bristol and host Coast Guard on Tuesday.
