Softball Gets CCC Split With Gordon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Softball team began Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a doubleheader split against Gordon College, opening with a 7-4 win followed by a 6-12 loss.

In the first game, the Hawks plated four runs in the opening inning. Micaela Pohl used an RBI singles to score Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.). Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) later sent a two-RBI double to center while Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) used an RBI single to give RWU the 4-0 advantage.

Roger Williams posted three more runs in the fourth inning. Ledbetter, Pohl, Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) all collected RBI's in the inning to build the lead to seven for RWU.

Gordon made a late push with three runs in the top of the sixth. Caitlin Catalanotta (Kingston, N.H.), Arianna Ramsaran (Johnson City, Tenn.), and Rose Shannon (Ashland, Mass.) each scored to pull within four.

The Fighting Scots added one more in the seventh and managed to put the tying run at the plate with runners in scoring position. However, RWU was able to induce a fly out to right to get the win.

Murray went the distance in the win, allowing four runs with a pair of strikeouts. Pohl was 3-for-4 with two RBI with Chatowsky going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Jasmine Mullally (Waterford, N.Y.) gave up seven runs in the loss with two strikeouts. Jenkerson, Ramsaran, and Karissa Hatchell (Eaton, Colo.) all had a pair of hits.

In the second game, Gordon scored in one in the top of the first and added two more in the following inning. However the Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the second, thanks in part to a two-RBI triple by Ledbetter. An inning later, Roger Williams later took advantage of a misplayed ball in the outfield in the third to clear the bases and take a 6-4 lead.

However, RWU's offense would stall from there as the Fighting Scots outscored Roger Williams 8-0 over the final four innings including a five spot in the fourth to regain the lead. The Hawks were done in by four errors over that stretch to allow Gordon to pull away for the win.

Rachel Wandilzak (West Islip, N.Y.) took the loss, tagged for eight runs in 3.1 innings. Pohl had a pair of hits in the game with Ledbetter going 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Catalanotto picked up the win, striking out three in the complete game. Ramasaran had four hits, two runs, and three RBI with Jenkerson adding two hits and five runs scored,
