Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Softball team suffered a pair of losses to Salve Regina University Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-5 in the first game and 0-14 in the second in five innings.
In the first game, RWU stayed in it until the end, but Salve Regina University pulled away late to earn the win. Salve Regina scored in the second inning, when Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.) scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks were held scoreless for the first five innings, until the Hawks went on top 2-0 on a two-RBI double from Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.), bringing home Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) and Valerie Moran (Syosset, N.Y.).
Salve Regina would come back in the top of the seventh, posting four runs in the inning. A sacrifice fly by Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) was the go-ahead run for the Seahawks. RWU stranded a runner at first in the bottom of the seventh as Salve got the win.
Andi Nelson (Candia, N.H.) led Regina to victory, pitching the final two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) took the loss for Roger Williams. She lasted one inning, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking zero.
The Hawks totaled nine hits in the game. Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.), Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.), and Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.Y.) all had multiple hits. Goria went 3-for-3 at the plate .
In the second game, Salve Regina put the game away early with eight runs in the top of the second. Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kristen Hickey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) each had two RBI hits in the inning.
The Seahawks added five more in the fourth inning. Karena Bushey (Waterford, Conn.) knocked a two-RBI single in the frame. Salve added one more in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Maddie Machado (Westport, Mass.). The Hawks were held to only four hits in the game as the Seahawks picked up the win.
Jaycee Garrigan (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up the win. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
Rachel Wandzilak took the loss for Roger Williams. She allowed seven hits and nine runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Taylor Chatowsky (North Kingston, R.I.) went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Roger Williams University in hits.
Roger Williams (2-14, 1-3 CCC) will take on Johnson & Wales on Tuesday. Salve Regina hosts Western New England on Friday.
