Framingham State Takes A Pair Over Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Framingham State University swept a non-conference doubleheader with the Roger Williams University Softball team at Maple Street Field.  The Rams took the opener 14-1 in five innings before taking game two 10-3.
 
With the wins, the Rams improve to 17-13 on the season, while the Hawks are now 5-24-1.
 
Senior outfielder Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) reached 200 career hits this afternoon. With the wins, the Rams improve to 17-13 on the season, while the Hawks are now 5-24-1.
 
Marchant, who became the Rams career hit leader earlier this season, went one-for-two in game one and followed that up by going one-for-four in game two. With her single in game two, Marchant is the first Rams softball player to reach 200 career hits.  Marchant also scored three runs on the day and drove in one.
 
Junior Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) earned the victory in game one going four innings allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.  Senior Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) tossed one inning of scoreless relief surrendering just one hit.
 
Rachel Wandzilak took the loss for the Hawks going an inning and two thirds allowing seven earned runs on six hits with a strikeout and three walks.  Ellie Flemining came on in relief to allow seven runs, four earned, on eight hits with a strikeout.
 
Freshman Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) paced the offense going three-for-three with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, senior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) went two-for-three with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.  Senior Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) drove in two runs, while freshman Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) doubled and drove in a pair.  Sophomore Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) recorded two hits and scored three times, while senior Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) crossed the plate three times.
 
In game two, the Rams plated four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.  Moody went two-for-four with a run scored and two RBI, while sophomore Kirsten Dick (Tewksbury, Mass.) homered and plated two runs.  Dziok drove in a pair in the game, while Downing walked twice and scored twice.
 
Alexis Romano led the Hawks offense in game two going three-for-four at the dish with a run scored, while Haley Ledbetter picked up two hits and scored a run.
 
Caughey earned the victory for the Rams going four innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with five strikeouts, while Pietersen tossed three innings of scoreless relief en route to earning her first save of the season.
 
Hailey Prechtel took the loss for the Hawks going three and two thirds and allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits with four strikeouts.  Wandzilak tossed two and a third in relief allowing three runs on three hits.
 
The Rams are back in action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Bridgewater State for a pair of MASCAC games beginning at 12 p.m., while the Hawks travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a pair of CCC games beginning at 1 p.m.
