Men’s Lacrosse Calms Nor’Easters

run to defeat the University of New England 11-5 Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
 
Mitch Mullin (Cumberland, Maine) scored the opening goal for the Nor'Easters less than two minutes into the contest, taking a pass from Collin Morrow (Nashua, N.H.) for a man-up goal. Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) tied the game less than a minute later with a score from Brian Brockwell (Duxbury, Mass.). At the 8:40 mark, Mullin regained the lead for UNE with a goal, but Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) came right back for RWU with a game-tying score at 5:39.
 
Garett Bozek (Nashua, N.H.) notched his first goal of the game with 4:18 left in the quarter, but Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) helped tie the game at three with a goal in the closing seconds of the quarter. Neither team was able to score in the second quarter, as Hawk goalie Ryan Bannon and UNE goalie Tyler Nevers (Southbury, Conn.) combined for seven saves in the period.
 
The Hawks turned it on in the third quarter, scoring five unanswered goals in the period. Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) broke the tie with a goal at 7:25 to put RWU up 4-3. Bova and Marzec combined for three goals over a two-minute stretch to extend the lead to four, while Grier added another tally with two minutes left in the quarter.
 
Bozek ended the RWU run shortly in the fourth quarter, scoring an unassisted goal at 12:12. However the Hawks came back with three more goals in the quarter, holding the Nor'Easters scoreless until Matt Layton (Medford, N.Y.) scored with 1:51 left. By that point, the Hawks had a six-goal advantage and would roll to the win.
 
Bannon earned his first collegiate win in his first career start, stopping ten shots for RWU. Marzec (4 G) and Grier (2 G, 2 A) each finished with four points, while Brockwell had four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
Nevers made 11 saves in the loss. Bozek and Mullin both scored twice for the Nor'Easters. Adam Race (Erieville, N.Y.) finished with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Roger Williams (6-5, 2-2 CCC) takes on Curry on Tuesday. Univ. of New England (5-6, 1-2 CCC) hosts Emerson on Wednesday.
