Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Softball team dropped a pair of contests to the University of New England by 3-1 and 12-1 (5) margins.
In the first game, Sam Dreissig got UNE on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the third, bringing home Avery Alberghini (Middlesex, Vt.). The Hawks got the run back in the bottom of the inning, with Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) doubling to right to score Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.).
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) and Sydnee Bessler (Everett, Mass.) pitched well for RWU and UNE, respectively, throughout the game. Over the first six innings, those two runs would be the only runs for either team.
In the top of the seventh Caroline Schoenbucher (Barrington, N.H.) came through for the Nor'Easters with a one-out, two-run homerun to give UNE the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.) got a on via a leadoff single, but the Hawks would go down in order to give UNE the win.
Murray took the loss giving up three runs while striking out two. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Bessler allowed one run to earn the win, with Schoenbucher going 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
In the second game, UNE jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sarah Lachapelle (Gilford, N.H.) began the scoring run with a two-RBI single. UNE ended up bringing 11 batters to the plate in the frame.
Ledbetter scored in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.), yet that would be the Hawks' lone run in the game. The Nor'Easters added two more runs in the top of the second before tacking on four more runs in the top of the fifth.
Bessler earned her second win of the day, striking out six. Lachapelle and Alberghini both went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) gave up six runs in 0.1 innings. Ledbetter finished 2-for-3 with a run.
Roger Williams (2-16, 1-5 CCC) plays Nichols on Monday. University of New England (9-5, 4-0 CCC) plays Salve Regina tomorrow.
