Head Coach
Marty Kelly announced that seniors
Joseph Elia (Wantagh, N.Y.),
Shawn Errasti (Duxbury, Mass.) and
Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) have been selected captains for the 2019 campaign.
"Myself and the rest of the coaching staff are excited to have these three as captains," notes Coach Kelly. "Each brings a different perspective to this role and the coaching staff looks forward to working with them to get this team to a level we have never been: CCC Champions."
Errasti is familiar with this role, having served as one of five captains for the 2018 season, the only junior to do so in 2018. "Shawn did a terrific job last year, and it was certainly no surprise he was selected again this year. He carried the burden of being the primary face of the team during the summer, fall, and through the holiday break," states Kelly. "However, when your best player is your hardest worker, it's hard for others not to follow him. Not only is he our strongest player here at RWU, I feel he is the best in our conference, even as a close defender."
Elia has been a four-year player for the Hawks, but more in a reserve role. "Joe's attitude and work ethic—whether it's in the classroom, on the field, or in the weight room—has always made a big impact on his teammates, even before this season," raves Kelly. "His deadpan sense of humor and sarcasm has everyone on their toes, but he has always done everything we have asked of him;,always keeping the interests of the team first."
Nolan has had his fair share of time in net for the Hawks over the past three seasons. However, as Kelly shares, "If someone asked me three years ago if Weston would be a captain of our team, I would have thought they were crazy. This goes to show how far Weston has come in many ways, and we will need him continue to be his vocal self in pushing this team, and himself to greater heights!"
The Hawks open up their 2019 campaign on Wednesday, Feb. 20
th when they host Babson at 3:30 pm.
