MADISON, N.J. — The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team began the spring portion of the season with a strong performance at the Drew University Invitational this past weekend.
Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) and
Jared Deibe (Oakland, N.J.) began the tournament with a pair of wins on Saturday. They earned a 6-2 win over Kevin Illinets and Cyrus Dastparhvardah of Ramapo and a 7-5 victory over Bryce Kennedy and Billy MacDonald of Drew. On Day 2, they served up a 6-0 win against Bryce Blumenthal and Joshua Halperin of Ramapo in the B Flight Quarterfinals, then advanced to the championship after taking down Karel Raska and Dan Blumenthal of Drew 6-1. They would then claim the B Flight title after downing Chow and Ellis of Wilkes 6-0.
Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and
Matty Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.) also picked up two wins on the first day of competition. They notched a 6-1 win against Bryce Weizer and Lloyd Goldstein of Drew, followed by a 6-3 victory against Matt Borenkoff and Seth Frey of Ramapo. Also earning two Saturday wins were
Tyler Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) and
Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.), defeating Jack Maline and Alec Levin of Wilkes 6-4 and Chris Yip and Justin Rinaldi of Ramapo 6-3.
On Sunday, those two Hawk pairs would face each other in the C Flight Championship. Cole and Feldman made their way to the title match after defeating Wilkes' Maline and Levin 6-4 in the quarterfinals and Goldstein and Weizer of Drew 6-2 in the semifinals. Cain and Correa won 6-2 against Ramapo's Borenkoff and Frey in the quarters and 6-4 over Matt Angara and Colin Greenman of Wilkes. In the championship, Cole and Feldman won the battle of the Hawks, downing Cain and Correa 6-3.
Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and
Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) earned a pair of 6-3 wins on Day 1 over Mike Abelev and Alex Kogut of Ramapo and Vineet Vemalapally and Geoffrey Diehl of Drew. At the #3 flight on Day 1,
Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) and
Miles Conlin (Branford, Conn.) claimed a 6-3 victory against Drew's Raska and Blumenthal and a 6-1 win over Ramapo's Blumenthal and Halperin.
