Women’s Polo Takes Part In Northeast Regionals

BOSTON, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Polo team competed at the USPA Northeast Regionals this past weekend. The Hawks fell 14-18 to Yale in the opener before downing the University of Guelph 22-8.

In the opener against Yale, RWU found themselves down 3-0 early on in the first chukka. A pony goal put RWU on the board, but Yale would eventually take a 6-3 lead going into chukka two. In the second chukka, the Hawks tallied four goals but still trailed 7-9 at the half.

Four goals for both teams in the third chukka kept the Yale lead at two going into the final chukka. The Bulldogs scored the first two goals in the fourth period and managed to hold off RWU the rest of the way, outscoring Roger Williams 5-3.

Aliah Debejian (Liverpool, N.Y.) led Roger Williams with seven goals. Annie Ebersold (Glastonbury, Conn.) added three goals while Jocelyn Noguiera (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored twice.

In the consolation game against Guelph, the Hawks broke away in the first chukka and never looked back. Roger Williams tallied 11 goals in the period, with four each from Ebersold and Noguiera and three from Debejian. In the second chukka, Ebersold scored all six goals for the Hawks in the period, powering RWU to a 17-1 halftime lead.

The third chukka saw Guelph put up three goals in the period but Roger Williams still maintained an 18-4 advantaged going into chukka four. In the last period, both teams scored four goals each as Roger Williams cruised to the win.

Ebersold led the Hawks with 10 goals in the match. Noguiera and Debejian each finished with six goals.
