SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Roger Williams University Softball freshman pitcher Lia Nocella (Tyngsborough, Mass.) has been honored as Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week.

Nocella enjoyed a strong start to her collegiate career both in the circle and at the plate as the Hawks opened the 2019 campaign in Clermont, Fla.  Nocella went 2-0 with 10 scoreless innings in three appearances. She scattered just nine hits and four walks, while striking out nine.  Nocella's top performance came in her first collegiate start, as she tossed a five-inning, complete-game shutout in a 9-0 victory over Dominican (Ill.). In that outing, Nocella scattered four hits and a walk, while fanning five.
