Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.—The Roger Williams Softball team opened its 2019 season with a pair of losses against Adrian College (4-2) and Monmouth College (1-0) at the Hancock Complex on Friday.
Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) toed the rubber in game one for the Hawks. She allowed three hits, one run, and one strike out in four innings of play.
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) and
Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) finished out the game as relievers.
In the bottom of the second inning,
Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.) singles on a fly ball to center field. With one out,
Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) hits a hard ground ball to third base but beat the throw to first while Pohl advances to third. With runners at first and third, speedy Romano steals second as Pohl steals home for the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the fourth with two Hawks on base and one out, Romano grounds out into a double play but not before
Madi Francis (Coventry, Conn.) scores from third.
However, Adrian pulled away for good with four runs in the fifth inning that left the score 4-2 at the end of the game.

Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.), and Romano each managed one hit for the Hawks.
In game two,
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) started and played five innings while
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) relieved with two hits, one walk, and one strike out looking. For Monmouth, Jenna Pauley (Moline, Ill.) pitched seven innings and got the win with four hits and one strike out.
Lambardo got the team started with the first hit of the season to left field in the bottom of the first. After being left on base, the Hawks battled to score the first run but the Scots kept fighting.
In the bottom of the fourth, Pohl crushed a double to left center with two outs but the Hawks couldn't get the run in.
It wasn't until the top of the sixth that Monmouth went ahead by Alison Trettin's (Manito, Ill.) solo homerun.
RWU answered with Lombardo's second hit of the game followed by Romano's single up the middle. With two outs and Pohl up to the plate, there was hope for the Hawks but it resulted with a pop up to center field for the third out.
Monmouth collected a total of nine hits while RWU came up with four, which resulted in a 1-0 loss for RWU.
Tomorrow they face Dominican and Bridgewater State at 1:45 and 4:00 p.m.
