BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time this fall, Roger Williams University Men's Soccer Goalkeeper Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) was recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, this time for the week of October 18^th through October 24^th. Avellar was a virtual wall for the Hawks in a pair of crucial conference matchups on the week.
 
Avellar previously earned CCC Defensive Player of the Week honors all the way back on the week of August 30^th through September 5^th. His efforts in net this week were pivotal for RWU as they went 1-1-1 overall, but 1-0-1 with him in net in their two CCC matchups against regionally-ranked foes.
 
In what was his first full week of action in over a month, Avellar was superb and recorded his third shutout of the season against number-six regionally ranked Gordon College last Wednesday, making four saves in a defensive bout resulting in a 1-0 Hawks win. He followed that up with arguably an even better performance against number-eight regionally ranked Salve Regina University on Saturday. He did allow one goal on a penalty kick, but outside of that he was flawless, making multiple critical stops and finishing with eight saves in a game that resulted in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods.
 
In total, Avellar played 200:00 minutes in goal for the Hawks allowing just a single goal while making 12 saves on the week. Additionally, despite appearing in just eight games so far this fall, Avellar ranks tied for second in the CCC in complete game shutouts (3), fourth in goals against average (1.15), fifth in saves (53), and tied for sixth in wins (4), while also leading the conference with an .841 save percentage.
