George Higham (Pine Beach, N.J.), junior captain for the Roger Williams University Sailing team, joined Hawk Talk this week. He sat down with host
Bryce Johnson, and they discussed what a normal week is like when preparing for a regatta, what it means to be named a team captain, and his favorite regatta venue.

Higham is in his third year competing for the Hawks as a skipper. Thus far this fall he has competed at three regattas, posting a top-three finish in two of them. He sailed RWU to a second place finish alongside
Izaiah Farr (Dartmouth, Mass.) and
Jaqui Frode (Nassau, Bahamas) at the Mt. Hope Bay Invitational that was hosted right here in Bristol before pairing with
Hank Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) to come in third at the Sister Esther Open. In addition, Higham and Bailey teamed up again to claim sixth at B Division at the George Warren Smith Trophy just a couple weeks ago.
Â
Last spring, Higham helped the team grab a pair of top-three placings as they finished second at the Robin Wallace Team Race and claimed third at the Hap Moore Team Race. The highlight of his freshman season was helping RWU finish third at the Nickerson Trophy by placing second at B Division.
Â
Off the water, Higham is very involved as a peer mentor on campus at Roger Williams while also serving with the NEISA TIDE organization, NEISA's diversity, equity, and inclusion group.
