BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior captain Jamie Gaffga (Mattituck, N.Y.) of the Roger Williams University Volleyball team was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Libero of the Week for the week of September 20
th through September 26
th, it was announced on Monday. Gaffga anchored the Hawks' defense and her 40 digs in the team's two matches helped the squad go 2-0 on the week.
This marks the first time Gaffga has been recognized for her play on the court for the Hawks and it was well earned. Her 40 digs were the most she has had over any two-game stretch in her career, and she also excelled in the service game by posting four aces.
She helped RWU get in the win column with an excellent showing against Suffolk last Thursday as she tallied 24 digs and three service aces in the Hawks four-set victory over the Rams, and both marks were the second highest single-game totals in her career. She then carried that momentum into a 16-dig, one-ace showing in the team's sweep over the University of New England on Saturday.
On the season, Gaffga has recorded double-digit digs in six of the team's eight matches, while also leading the team with 134 total digs. In addition, her 4.62 digs per set are the second-most in the CCC to this point this season.
Gaffga is the first member of the volleyball team to receive a CCC weekly honor thus far this season. She is also the first Hawk to receive weekly recognition from the CCC since Katie Welcher earned Rookie of the Week honors in October of 2019, while also being the first Hawk recognized as conference Libero of the Week since Meghan Chartier received the honor in October of 2017.
