BRISTOL, R.I. – The No.4 Roger Williams University women's soccer team is set to clash against the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Western New England on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 2 pm on Suprenant Field.
The Golden Bears and Hawks originally met on Oct. 22 with Roger Williams edging out Western New England, 1-0, in their lone meeting this season off of a goal from
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.).
Western New England has posted a 12-5-1 record this season, playing the CCC to a 6-2-1 record, to boast the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, with the Golden Bears conference losses coming to Roger Williams and Endicott. The Golden Bears won their CCC Quarterfinal matchup against No. 8 Wentworth, 3-0, to advance semifinals.
Roger Williams sits at 9-9-3 on the season with a 4-3-2 record in conference play. The Hawks are riding a three-game winning streak in which they have won, against the Golden Bears and Nichols, before hosting No. 5 Gordon in a CCC Quarterfinal on Saturday, Oct. 29, outlasting the Fighting Scots in a 2-0 victory.
As a team the Hawks and Golden Bears have two of the top-three scoring averages in the conference. The Hawks rank second scoring 1.95 goals per game to the Golden Bears 1.94 goals per game.
Defensively the Golden Bears have held opponents to 0.72 goals per game ranking top of the conference, with the Hawks allowing 2.30 goals per game on the season.
The Hawks offense is led by senior
Bianca Robbins who leads the conference with 17 goals on the season while also picking up a pair of assists for a total of 36 points. The Hawks have also received a hand from freshman
Sofie Morris (Bristol, R.I.) who has eight goals on the season ranking second on the team.
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.) leads the team in assists with seven, and
Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) and
Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.) each have a five assists on the season.
Western New England will look for Allison Bruehwiler to provide a spark, leading the team with eight goals and tied for the team lead with three assists for 19 points. The Golden bears also, have three players with 10 points on the season with Gabby Sansone, Isabella Mantalvo, and Samantha Vitka all having four goals and two assists.
In net the Hawks defense is likely to be backstopped by freshman goalkeeper
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) who has held opponents to 1.92 goals per game while posting a 7-7-2 overall record. Marrelli sits second in the conference in made saves with 101 on the season.
The Western New England squad will look to Molly McLaughlin in net, as she totaled 53 saves for save percentage of .803.
The Hawks and Bears have met a total of 24 times prior with the Hawks holding a 14-5-5 advantage over Western New England. The Hawks will enter the match riding a two-game winning streak at Western New England.
