Women’s Basketball Holds On To #22 Ranking In WBCA National Poll

BRISTOL, R.I. – Despite suffering the team's first Commonwealth Coast Conference loss of the season, the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team remained in the top 25 of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association national poll, as the Hawks dropped six spots to #22.

"Despite a tough game last week, it's nice to see we are still in the Top 25," said Head Coach Kelly Thompson. "We have one more week in the regular season to get ourselves prepared for the CCC Tournament. I'm eager to play this week and get ourselves back on track."

Last week, Roger Williams had a lighter span of competition. The team played only two games, which was the first time in four weeks that RWU did not play at least three games in a seven-day span. On Tuesday, Roger Williams picked up a 73-33 win over Salve Regina, the team's largest win in the all-time series against the Seahawks.

On Saturday, the Hawks faced off against rival University of New England. Despite a lackluster shooting performance, the Hawks mounted a late comeback to force overtime against the Nor'Easters. Unfortunately, UNE was able to hold off Roger Williams in the extra period for a 61-57 win.

The Hawks will close out the regular season this week with a road game against Suffolk on Wednesday at 5:30pm, followed by the regular season finale against Western New England at home on Saturday at 1:00pm.
