BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team has been selected to finish third in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, as according to the CCC Preseason Poll released Friday.
Roger Williams begins the 2022 campaign in search of the program's first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship. Last season, the Hawks concluded the season with an 8-4 overall record while going 4-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The team earned the No. 4 seed for the CCC Tournament and advanced to the CCC Semifinals where they faced off against top-seeded Endicott. Unfortunately for RWU, the Hawks were bested 14-8 in the tournament by the eventual conference champions.
This year's team is relatively young, with 14 upperclassmen guiding the 45-man roster. With over a quarter of the team made up of first-year players, the Hawks will depend on the leadership of veteran leaders in their quest for a CCC title. Assisting in that leadership role will be 2021 All-CCC Third Team attacker
Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.), a graduate student captain returning for his fifth season at RWU.
Defending CCC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Champion Endicott is the preseason favorite heading into the 2022 season as it earned the most points in the poll conducted the league's nine head coaches earlier this week. The Gulls received 78 points in the voting, including six of the nine first place votes.
Western New England will look to return to CCC Championship game for the 11th season in a row this year. They landed second in this year's voting with 75 points and the remaining three first place votes. They will be looking to recapture the league's top-spot after having their efforts at a three-peat thwarted last season.
Last year's CCC Tournament Semifinalists, Roger Williams and Salve Regina, landed in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in this year's poll with 58 and 56 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Curry claimed the No. 5 spot with 47 points to round out the top five.
Closing out the poll were Wentworth (33 points), Nichols (24), the University of New England (20), and Gordon (14) in that order.
The 2022 men's lacrosse season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 19 as four teams begin their non-conference slates. They will be gearing up for the start of the conference season that begins on Saturday, March 26. The top seven teams as the end of the regular-season will qualify for the 2022 CCC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, which begins with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, April 30. The tournament will continue with the semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 and the CCC Championship game on Saturday, May 7. The winner of the CCC Championship game will be named the 2022 CCC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Champion and earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
