Superb Tournament Week Earns Elie CCC Player & Rookie Of The Week Honors

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) put together a stellar Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament run for the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team, and as a result was honored as the CCC Player and Rookie of the Week as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday afternoon. Elie scored double-digits in each contest, leading all players in scoring in both the quarterfinal round and the championship game.

It is the first time Elie has received weekly recognition from the CCC, although she was named to the all-conference second team as it was announced last week. In addition, she is the third different member of the women's basketball team to earn a weekly award this season as previously Karli Opalka (Southbury, Conn.) was twice named as conference Player of the Week, and fellow sophomore Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) was recognized as the Rookie of the Week once.

Over the course of the team's postseason run, Elie averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds (1.3 offensive), 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals, while shooting at a .438 clip from the field.

Elie opened the week netting a game-high 12 points on 4-7 from the field while collecting seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in the Hawks' biggest postseason blowout in program history over Nichols College, 82-30. She followed that up with a ten-point, three-rebound outing against Gordon College in the semifinals as one of four players to score double-digits in that contest.

Elie saved her best for last however, authoring perhaps her best all-around showing of the season in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Game against Endicott. She led all players and set a new career-high with 20 points to go with five rebounds, and three assists. Defensively, she was tasked with defending the reigning CCC Rookie of the Year Sarah Dempsey and shut her down, holding the all-conference first teamer to just a single point on zero made field goals collecting a pair of blocks and steals along the way.

On the season, Elie is third on the Hawks and 20th in the conference netting 11.3 points per game on a 44.7% conversion rate that ranks 11th in the CCC. She is also a great passer and defender as she is 16th in the conference dishing 2.3 assists, is 35th in the CCC plucking 1.1 steals, and ranks 11th in blocks with 0.8 per contest. Additionally, she tops the roster in both total free throw attempts and makes.
