How It Happened
An RBI groundout by Francesca Cioffi (Brewster, N.Y.) allowed Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) to score in the top of the first inning for a quick 1-0 lead for the Hawks. RWU would maintain that one-run lead until the top of the fifth, when a sac fly by Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) and an infield RBI single by Rosado tacked on two more runs for the Hawks.

In UNE's half of the inning, Allie Martell and Sami Groves each posted RBI hits to pull the Nor'Easters within one. Nicole Cacciola would score the game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded force-out with one inning remaining. Taylor Howell (Sandwich Mass.) got the clutch hit in the top of the seventh to score Provencal, but UNE responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double by Abby Miner to send the game to extras.

The Hawks exploded for three runs in the top of the eighth, including an RBI double by Taylor Bigliani (Saint James, N.Y.). The Hawks looked poised to roll to the win, but UNE made things interested in the bottom of the frame, with a sac fly and an RBI double pulling the Nor'Easters within one. With the tying run on second, Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) returned to the game which the started and induced back-to-back groundouts to third to claim the save and secure the win for the Hawks.

The Hawks began the second game similar to the first, with a run in their first at-bat. RWU logged four consecutive one-out hits with Maddie Predaris (Rye, N.H.) notching the RBI single that would score Rosado. However, the Nor'Easters got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Miner.

UNE would take their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third. With runners at first and second, Megan Chamberlain blasted a three-run homer to right field to make it 4-1 in the Nor'Easters' favor.

In the top of the fifth, Provencal took advantage of a fielding error by the third baseman to score from third and cut UNE's lead to two. The Hawks would complete the comeback to innings later in the top of the seventh.

After Madison Tobin (Pittsfield, Mass.) led off the inning with a base hit, Provencal scored her with an RBI double, then later tied the game at four off of an RBI groundout from Howell. After the Nor'Easters stranded a runner at first in the bottom of the seventh, both teams headed to the eighth for their second extra-inning contest of the day.

In the top of the eighth, Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.) hit a comebacker to the pitcher, who looked Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.) back to second. However, her throw to first sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing MacLean to score from second.

In UNE's half, Depot beat out a bunt to third to put runners at the corner with no one out. Chamberlain then stepped up to the plate and rocketed a double to right center, scoring Depot and Grace Tutt to earn the win for UNE.
