Sailing Finalizes 2021-22 Season At The Women’s Eastern Semifinals

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team completed their 2021-22 season as their women's fleet racing team recently competed at the College Sailing Women's Eastern Semifinals, hosted by Tulane University, finishing 14th. The third Hawks team to compete on the national stage on the water over the past two weeks, the women's fleet racing team came up short and could not clinch a spot in the national championship regatta.

Hawk Highlights
A Division saw Roger Williams deploy almost exclusively the boat of Claire Siegel-Wilson (Portland, Ore.) and Julia O'Connor (Foxboro, Mass.), though Gracie Woodcock (South Dartmouth, Mass.) did also see time in the boat, and they had a difficult time finding traction on the bayou. They opened up action with a 16th place finish and while they did claim a third-place finish in the third race of the regatta, it would prove to be the exception instead of the rule. The Hawks top boat would post a double-digit finish in nine of the 13 races, finishing with a score of 164 to take 16th in the division.

RWU would mix-and-match at B Division with Jaqui Frode (Nassau, Bahamas), Michaela O'Donnell (Cleveland, Ohio), Caylin Schnoor (San Diego, Calif.), and Woodcock throughout the event. It would be a similar story for the second boat as it was for the team in A Division. They opened by finishing 16th but rebounded with a fourth-place finish two races later. While the Hawks saw better success in their recovery attempt in B Division, they could not quite find the consistency needed to get into the upper half of the standings as they finished 12th in the division with a score of 136.
