BRISTOL, R.I. - In a clash at Walter Brown Arena, the Roger Williams University Men's ice hockey team faced a tough challenge from Boston University on Saturday, falling to the Terriers, 5-1.
The game started with Boston University taking an early lead in the first period
. Samuel Casey netted a goal just seven minutes into the game, assisted by Aidan Crichton and Patrick Lewicki. The Hawks found themselves down by one but continued to battle throughout the period.
The second period proved to be a challenging one for the Hawks, as the Terriers managed to extend their lead. Ben Flett, Tommy Mccarthy, and Noah Bird all found the back of the net for Boston University, while Roger Williams struggled to respond. Shots on goal favored Boston University 19-13 during this period, and the scoreboard showed a 4-0 deficit for the Hawks.
In the third period, Roger Williams showed resilience and managed to break Boston University's shutout.
Alex Forward (Concord, N.H.) scored for the Hawks, assisted by
Kyle Hummel (Orange, Conn.) and
Grady Chretien (Goffstown, N.H.).
With three minutes left, Boston University scored on an odd man rush bringing the score to 5-1. Despite their efforts, the Hawks couldn't overcome the deficit and ultimately fell to Boston University.
Ethan Arruda (Tiverton, R.I.) stood strong in the net for Roger Williams, facing 39 shots and making 34 saves, while Alex Wagner tended the goal for Boston University, stopping 32 of 33 shots on goal.
Roger Williams (1-1-0) will host Bridgewater State at Portsmouth Abbey Arena on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 3:00 pm. The Hawks will then travel to Bridgewater Ice Arena Friday, Oct. 20 to face the Bears yet again.
