BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University men's ice hockey team emerged victorious against Bridgewater State with a final score of 5-4.
The Hawks started short-handed to begin the game, due to having too many players on the bench. The Hawks faced an early deficit as Bridgewater State swiftly capitalized on the power play, taking a 1-0 lead within the first minute.
However, Roger Williams wasted no time in responding,
Marco Santagati (Belmont, Mass.) sent a pass to
Pat Codeanne (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the slot, sending it into the net to even the score at 1-1. Momentum swung in Roger Williams' favor, and the team seized another opportunity shortly after, going up 2-1, when
Peyton Defeo (Boxford, Mass.) delivered a pass to
Grady Chretien (Goffstown, N.H.), who capitalized on a broken play to put the Hawks in the lead. Bridgewater State responded with a goal just before the end of the first period, tying the contest at 2-2.
At the start of the second period,
Collin Berube (Groton, Mass.) fired a shot into the top corner of the net, marking his first goal and giving Roger Williams a 3-2 lead. Bridgewater State responded with a powerplay goal following a high-sticking penalty leveling the score at 3-3. Bridgewater State managed to grab the lead once more, going up 4-3. Berube scored his second goal on another broken play in the slot. His second tally made it 4-4, setting the stage for the third period.
The final period was marked by intense physical play from both sides. It took until the last five minutes for a decisive goal to break the tie.
Dylan Coyne (Canton, Mass.) delivered the game-winner with a shot from the slot, assisted by Defeo and Chretian. With this goal, Roger Williams secured a hard-fought 5-4 victory
