PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's ice hockey team split a pair of matchups over the weekend, defeating Saint Anselm, 5-3, before suffering a loss to Boston College Sunday, Feb. 5 at Portsmouth Abbey.
The Hawks Friday contest against Saint Anslem, started with
Kyle Greer (Bedford, N.H.), who picked up a puck after a Saint Anselm turnover in their defensive end, firing a shot above the goaltender's glove. Saint Anselm then picked up the puck behind the net later in the first before an awkward angle shot ricocheted its way into the net on the power play. Greer added his second goal of the game shortly after, scoring in tight, into the top of the cage. Greer then completed his first period hat trick with a goal on the glove side again to put Roger Williams up 3-1.
In the second Saint Anselm game out with pressure, but
Grady Chretien (Goffstown, N.H.) scored one off a rebound during a power play to put Roger Williams up by three. Saint Anselm responded with under two minutes to go in the second, to cut the Hawk lead to two.
After 15 minutes of scoreless play in the final period, Saint Anselm scored with a breakaway goal, making the game 4-3 in favor of Roger Williams. The Hawks then iced the contest with Greer scoring on a empty net, his fourth goal of the game, and the final goal of a 5-3 Roger Williams victory.
On Sunday the Hawks celebrated their seven seniors during a pregame Senior Day ceremony before their contest against the Eagles.

Shane Comeau (Scituate, Mass.) were each recognized.
Boston College opened things up with a goal hallway through the first, when they were able to tuck a rebound past the goaltender. The Eagles then score a second goal shortly after, taking an early 2-0 lead. At the end of the first period Roger Williams scored after
Marco Santagati (Belmont, Mass.) was on the receiving end of the pass from Baxter, that he then tapped out of the air into the net.
The Eagles led 3-1 before
Peyton Defeo (Boxford, Mass.) scored after beating the goalie blocker side, which he then put off the post and in to put the Hawks down by one. Chretien then added the game tying goal on a diving shot on a powerplay to level the game at 3-3.
Shane Marshall (Canton, Mass.) put Roger Williams ahead for the first time in the contest after scoring, clipping the puck over the goaltender during a battle in front of the net, putting the Hawks up 4-3 with three minutes remaining in the second period.
Coming out in the third applying pressure, the Eagles scored a goal on a backdoor pass leveling the score. Boston College then had a pair of back-to-back powerplays where they scored ona rebounded shot off of Serenson to take the lead. The Hawks used an empty net approach over the final 1:30 of play but were unable to find the back of the net.
Roger Williams (10-13-0 ACHA) will face off against Bryant on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1:45 PM.
