BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team brought in the accolades from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) this season, with a pair of major award winners and four student-athletes named to All-CCC Teams.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) was recognized for her defensive efforts as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Spearheading one of the top defenses in the country, helping guide the Hawks to the 10
th best scoring defense in Division III hoops, holding opponents to 48.6 points per game. Elie stole the ball 50 times this season ranking sixth in the league, while also being matched up against the top-scorers on opposing teams, consistently holding them below their scoring average. Elie also added 21 blocks.
In the coaching ranks, Head Coach
Kelly Thompson was named the conference's Coach of the Year after guiding the Hawks to an 18-0 regular season slate, her fourth CCC Coach of the Year award, and second consecutive. The Hawks became the first CCC Team to finish undefeated in conference play since 2015-16 when the University of New England finished the season unbeaten in conference action. This year's Roger Williams squad led the conference in blocks per game with 4.8, while also knocking down 44.9 percent of their shots on the field and scoring 1,689 points on the year.
Along with Elie earning first team honors on the season,
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) joins her on the All-CCC First Team. Galligan tallied 13.6 points per game ranking during the regular season, while averaging 3.6 rebounds and stealing the ball 41 times this season.
Sophie Araneo (Branford, Conn.) and
Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.) were also named to All-CCC Teams, landing on the conference's Third Team. Araneo wrapped up the regular season, averaging 9.3 points per game, collecting 5.6 shots per contest off the glass. Her 20 steals on the season, and six blocks on the year also provided assistance on the defensive end. Araneo also tallied 42 assists on the season.
Rounding out the Hawks All-CCC honorees, was Rosa who pulled down 4.3 rebounds per game over the regular season. Rosa also was the ranked third on the team in assists. Rosa was again a strong addition to the defensive unit, with 50 steals and 19 blocks on the season. Rosa also added 8.3 points per game.
#25 Roger Williams (25-3, 18-0 CCC) sits atop the league with All-CCC players with four. The Hawks will open up their NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament run on Friday, Mar. 3 at 4:30 pm when they open up against Mary Washington in the First Round, hosted by DeSales.
