Gymnastics: Hawks Find Early Season Success to Start Season

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University gymnastics team has participated in two meets so far this season, with strong performances in both.
 
The Hawks opened the season at Springfield, with both their Silver Team and Level 8 Team finishing second out of the five teams competing.
 
For the Silver Team, Brooke Karvosky finished first on the Uneven Bars, while also placing fourth All-Around. Allison Labutin (Fort Lee, N.J.) also earned a first-place finish with her Floor Routine, Mira Simmons placed fourth in the event. Kaylyn Ritter (Middlebury, Conn.) and Jacqueline Barton (Dracut, Mass.) placed third and fifth respectively on the Uneven Bars.
 
The Level Eight Team also finished second in the meet, with Tiana Adams (Rochester, N.H.) placing second in the floor routine with the Hawks first 10.0 score in program history. Arielle Cohen-Oliveiera (Newton, Mass.) then finished second all-around, and third in the Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise. Mikayla Hughes (Millbrook, N.Y.) finished fourth all-around with a second-place finish on the Uneven Bars, while Kayla Yates (New Durham, N.H.) and Sydney Lussier (Littleton, Mass.) placed fourth and seventh in the Floor Exercise.  Naomi Airey (Woburn, Mass.) placed eighth in the Uneven Bars.
 
At Northeast Regionals hosted by MIT, Roger Williams' Silver Team landed second in the six-team field, while the Level Eight Team finished in third.
 
For the silver team, Karvosky earned a second-place finish all-around, while picking up a second finish in the Uneven Bars, third place finish in the Balance Beam, and fifth in the Vault. Barton finished seventh all-around, closing her day with a second-place finish in the Vault. Labutin picked up a top finish in the Floor Exercise. And Simmons added a third and fourth place finish in the Floor Excersice and Vault respectively.
 
The Level Eight team was highlighted by Hughes who finished first All-Around, after picking up top spots in the Vault and Uneven Bars.  Hughes also added a second-place finish in the Balance Beam, and Cohen-Oliviera landed third on the Uneven Bars. Adams, Lussier, Airey, and Yates also contributed to the team score, finishing nearly a point higher than their team score from last season's Nationals.
 
On the men's Level Nine squad, Brett Ramella (Bristol, R.I.) finished seventh on the Pommel Horse, finishing 7th out of 19 competitors.  He also finished eighth on rings, in a 23-competitor field.
