MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Roger Williams University gymnastics team took part in the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs (NAIGC) Nationals last week, with the Silver Team finishing second place and the Level 8 Team placing 25
th.
In the Silver Level, the Hawks collectively tallied a team score of 111.275, putting them out of first place by .05 points.
Jacqueline Barton (Dracut, Mass.) finished ninth all-around, with a fifth-place finish on the balance beam. Barton also finished seventh on the uneven bars, she also finished 17
th on the vault and 23
rd in the floor routine.
Mira Simmons picked up four top 20 finishes, with her strongest performance coming with a 9.25 in the floor routine placing 12
th. She also had a score of 9.5 on the uneven bars. The Hawks'
Brooke Karvosky (placed third on the uneven bars, compiling a 9.7 score for the event, along with a 1top-20 finish in the floor routine.
Kaylyn Ritter (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Allison Labutin (Fort Lee, N.J.) also contributed to the Hawks' second place finish.
In the Level 8 competition, the Hawks compiled a team score of 102.775 placing 25
th in the field with freshman
Ava Pelkey (Winchester, N.H.) scoring 8.8 out of a possible 9.2 on the vault.
Tiana Adams (Rochester, Mass.) also tallied an 8.8 ion the vault out of a possible 9.0. Adams also recorded the highest score in the floor routine.
Brett Ramella (Bristol, R.I.) competed in the Men's Level 9 in three events, the Pommel Horse, Rings, and Parellel Bars, and qualified for the event finals coming in fifth, earning a top four medal.
