BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team will host No. 5 Nichols in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinal on Saturday, Apr. 29 at 3 pm.
The Hawks posted a 9-6 record on the season, going 5-3 within the conference on their way to securing the No. 4 seed, including a thrilling 9-8 regular season matchup at Nichols earlier this season.
The Bison have gone 10-7, with a 4-4 record in the CCC with wins coming over Gordon, Curry, University of New England, and the Hawks.
Roger Williams is led offensively by
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) and
Kevin Murphy (Ramsey, N.J.) both of whom have tallied 56 points on the season. Halpin has accomplished the feat with 39 goals on the year and 17 assists, while Murphy leads the team with 43 goals and has 13 assists on the season.
Jordan Pivarnik (Trumbull, Conn.) is the lead faceoff man for the Hawks going 158-325 for a .486 faceoff percentage, picking up 80 ground balls.
Kyle Zirn (Chester, N.H.) has 48 on the year, with
Tyler Zanini (Hopkinson, Mass.) picking up 38.
Zirn is also the team leader in caused turnovers with 36, with Zanini and
Mike Intravaia (Weymouth, Mass.) totaling 22 and 14 respectively.
The Bison are led by graduate attacker
Hunter Ferreira, whose 41 goals and 59 points rank in the top five in the CCC. Ferreira has attempted the most shots on goal in the conference with 151, followed behind by classmate
Cian Keohane's 143.
Keohane is tied second on the squad in points, posting 35 goals and 11 assists for 46 points. Only
Colby Gillis has as many points, as the junior has scored 15 goals while dishing out 31 assists.
Jack Ellis' seven man-up goals help him to sit third on the squad with 26.

Cooper Melvin's 56 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers lead the squad's defensive efforts, followed by
Kyle Ettenhofer's 48 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers to this point.
Brady Morgan has been solid as the last line of defense in between the pipes, leading the CCC with an 8.91 goals-against average.
Nichols and Roger Williams met earlier in the month, with the Hawks coming out of Dudley with a slim 9-8 victory on a late fourth-quarter goal from
Kevin Murphy, who is tied for first on the team in points with
Matt Halpin.
Max Kimmel has started all 15 games in between the pipes, making 134 saves.
The winner of the matchup will face off in a CCC Semifinals tilt on Wednesday, May 3, with an opponent and time to be determined.
