Box Score 2 DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team dropped both contests Friday at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, hosted by the Corsairs in the Tripp Athletic Center.
In the first match of the day, The Hawks fell in straight sets, with 25 kills being registered, with
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) leading the way with eight kills and
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) adding five.
On the defensive end Jackson had 12 digs with
Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) tying her for the team lead.
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 11 digs and 18 assists in the matchup.
The Corsairs jumped out to an early 18-5 lead with the Hawks then going on a 5-1 run to cut the lead down to nine. The Corsairs were able to hold on for the win in the set.
In the second set the Hawks again fell quick to the Corsairs attack and were able to take control of the set. In the third frame, Roger Williams jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before UMass Dartmouth cur the lead down to one. After taking the lead after a six-point run beginning at 10-10 the Corsairs held onto the lead for the victory, 2-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-18).
In game two, Mattiucci had 21 assists, with Hernandez picking up 12 digs. Picchietti hit .267 in the loss.
Babson hit .263 as a hitting percentage against the Hawks, with Roger Williams earning four blocks, 25 assists, and 50 digs in the match.
The Beavers took an early 19-10 lead before the Hawks rattled off the next nine of 10 points to cut the deficit down to one. Babson then rattled off five of seven points to close the set.
In the second set, Roger Williams led 18-17, but the Beavers' offense scored nine of the final 10 points to go up, 2-0. In the final frame, the Hawks trailed 14-13, while Babson scored five straight points to take the lead. The Beavers' held Roger Williams to three of the next nine points to close out the win for Babson, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-16).
Roger Williams (3-4, 0-0 CCC) will play day two of the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm against Mount Holyoke and UMass Boston.
