BRISTOL, R.I. – On the second day of our Hawk Highlights countdown, that we feature three student-athletes who made trips to their NCAA National Championships as individuals, with wrestling's
Jayden Curley and Men's Cross Country and Men's Track & Field's
Nathan Tassey and
Dylan Beggins.
All three student-athletes made NCAA Division III National appearances for the Hawks' beginning with Curley's journey to the 2024 Division III National Championships. Curley posted a 22-9 record on the season. Curley wrestled to a 17-6 record during the season before arriving at Northeast Regionals looking to qualify for a spot finishing In the top three.
Beginning with a 5-1 victory by decision, Curley fell in the quarterfinals, having to wrestle his way to the third-place match. A victory over Kyle Gora, propelled him to another win over Chase Anestis of Plymouth State in a tightly contested, 2-1 decision. In the consolation, Semifinals Curley then earned a 14-8 win over Desmond McLaughlin of Castleton, before securing the final spot at 174 pounds, with another 14-8 decision win over Adam Frost.
Curley's trip to Nationals ended on the opening night of competition, with two losses in his opening matches.
For Tassey, he followed a 2023 NCAA Cross Country National Championship appearance into an appearance for the men's track and field team. Tassey ran a career-best, 14:07.58 at the Farley Inter-Regional, securing his spot in the final weekend before selections. Tassey then raced to fourth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships earning All-American honors with a time of 14:07.58 after waiting all day to run as the race got pushed back.
Tassey made a return trip to the Cross Country Championships posting a school record 23:57.8 in the 8k. Tassey then finished first at the Mideast Regional, and followed the following Saturday with a fourth-place finish on the National stage, completing the course in 24:08.9.
Beggins path to qualifying came with a 12
th place finish at the Mideast Regional Championship, where he finished 12
th on the day, posting a career-best 24:56.8. Beggins followed in his NCAA Championship debut, where he posted a strong time of 25:35.2, finishing 168
th in the field of 294 runners.
